Bridal Diet

It is every woman’s dream to look her very best on her wedding day. And it is quite amazing that every woman irrespective of her size, complexion and height does look her very best on this very important day. Yet, in this age when thin is in, the search for the miraculous bridal diet continues with new found fervor.

A bridal body image survey for You & Your Wedding magazine revealed that 91% of respondents intend to lose weight for their wedding.

Before we let you in on this magical formula here are a few words of caution from Ms. Moonmoon Bannerjee consultant dietitian at the Nanavati Hospital Mumbai, “Please do not plan to go on a crash diet just about a couple of weeks or a month before your wedding day and decide to lose 7-10 kilos.

Be realistic about your goals. Avoid all rapid weight loss, quick-fix, fad diets such as retail diet pills like plague. Some of these will yield instant results as promised but, they will have a negative impact on your overall health. Do not opt for fasting or skipping meals.”

Dr. Tushna Park, an eminent dietitian in Chennai recommends a low carbohydrate diet. According to her, it is a great idea to avoid carbohydrates as much as possible. However, some people feel psychologically dissatisfied eating a meal that has no carbohydrates.

In such cases cook just a fistful of rice no more no less. Ideally brown rice is preferable to white rice. If
you’re not a rice eater, use three parts of soya flour and one part of wheat flour to make two chapattis.

The size of the each dough ball before it is rolled out should be the size of the circle that is formed when you bring your thumb and index finger together to form a curve. She says that there is no need to eliminate anything that is on your “favourites” list.

Not even junk food! All you need to do is restrict the amount you consume. For instance, if you enjoy eating pizzas, go ahead and order one. But instead of going for the entire pizza restrict yourself to just a couple of slices.

Jyoti, a young bride to be is a tad overweight. She says, “I do want to lose a little weight before my wedding day (which is about a month away) But I know that I suddenly can’t have the figure of Bipasha Basu or perhaps Aishwariya Rai.

So, I don’t even want to try. My diet regime is simple. It consists of small regular meals. The meals consist of lots of fresh fruits and veggies. I have replaced whole milk with skimmed milk. No, milk and sugar in my tea and coffee.

I have also completely given up on soft drinks, ice-creams and rice. I have a couple of chapattis for every meal. Its been a week since I’ve been on this diet and I’m feeling lighter already.”

Here are some must haves in your bridal diet meals- fruits; they are a great source of fibre and vitamins. They also provide you with anti-oxidants which your body needs to prevent cell and tissue damage.

Nuts not only add flavour and texture to your meals, they are also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. They are absolutely fabulous for combating those in between meals hunger pangs. Greens, everybody is aware of the goodness of greens.

Some milk product (ideally skim milk product), fish (if you are a non vegetarian is a must) great for glowing skin, lean meat. Last but not the least lots and lots of water. It will help you cleanse and detoxify.
